Begin.

Begin.

You can generate idea after idea, fill your Moleskine notebooks so jam-packed with great ideas the world would fall down at your feet if only they knew how creative you were. But the trap lies in thinking that coming up with the ideas is where the value is. It isn’t. The value lies in your ability to execute. Forget all the hundreds of ideas. Pick one. And do it. Then pick another, and do it too.

Shipping, Haters & Trolls... #30dc

But what have you shipped?

Yes, I know that you sit in the back of the room tweeting clever ripostes when speakers are up front failing on a panel and that you had a LOLcat published before they stopped being funny.

But what have you shipped...

I'm going to cut this out and stick it on the monitor.

Reminds me of Steve Jobs quote the other week to a Gawker report and goes hand in hand with my hater post yesterday.

When people who ship criticise, they do so constructively ... As a shipper - they know what it's like to be the victim of a troll.

So the next time a troll snipes anonamously at you from across the Internet - ask yourself - "what have they shipped..."

PS - Seth Godin is on a streak - I've been reading him since his first book. I can only dream of making a contribution like him. Subscribe to his blog. Buy his stuff. It's top shelf.

But if they give you and your team an outlet to avoid the difficult work of achieving your goal (“I can’t go to that sales call, I’m busy uploading pictures of last night’s party to the blog and then tweeting out the url”) then you’re not building, you’re hiding.

Tim Ferriss Scam! Practical Tactics for Dealing with Haters

“The best way to counter-attack a hater is to make it blatantly obvious that their attack has had no impact on you,” Ferriss advises. “That, and [show] how much fun you’re having!” Ferriss goes on to say that the best revenge is letting haters continue to live with their own resentment and anger, which most of the time has nothing to do with you in particular. “If a vessel contains acid and you pour some on an object, it’s still the vessel that sustains the most damage,” Ferriss says. “Don’t get angry, don’t get even — focus on living well and that will eat at them more than anything you can do.”

Takin’ It Too Far…

Hell, yeah, it was fun back when moolah poured down on us from magic online faucets, when gold crunched under our feet everywhere we went, and low-hanging fruit stretched forever into the distance.

It was fun… and it never had a chance of lasting very long.
